The A.A. Badenhorst winery is located near Paarl, northwest of Cape Town. The Swartland region, which used to be rather underestimated, was a supplier of grapes for the large wine cooperatives. Winemakers like Adi Badenhorst are among those who recognized the potential these lands hold and began producing quality wine. in 2010, he and other winemakers founded the "Swartland Revolution" for this purpose. The old vines of the region, as well as the granite, iron and slate soils of the area offer the best conditions for unique wines of high quality.
Adi Badenhorst draws his experience from his life stations Rhône, New Zealand and the Rustenberg Estate. He made his first wine at the age of 13. In Swartland, he cultivates the grape varieties Marsanne, Verdelho and Palomino for the white wines, and the classic Grenache, Cinsault and Tinta Barocca for the reds. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and are crushed with the feet in the classic way. Overnight cooling and spontaneous fermentation further emphasize the original character of viticulture in this place.
