Four centuries of history and wine culture
The Tedeschi family can look back effortlessly on four centuries of history and experience in viticulture, in one of the best-known wine-growing regions of northern Italy, Valpolicella. The belief in the great potential of wine-growing in this region has led to the fact that, with the change of generations, especially in the last century with a lot of innovative spirit and foresight, wine-making has repeatedly received new impulses. Considering and emphasizing the terroir, powerful, powerful wines are produced, characteristic of the region and with strong personality.
Starting point terroir and tradition
From Valpolicella to Amarone-wines and sweet Recioto, the grapes are grown and processed in the family vineyards. One focus of the work is the vineyard, in the very careful care of the vines, because a good wine is already created in the refined interaction of soil, microclimate and vine cultivation. The wines of the Tedeschi family impress with their freshness and elegance, liveliness and finesse. One of the prerequisites for this style is high altitude vineyards and the greatest possible difference between day and night temperatures. Tenuta Maternigo's newest vineyards are among the highest in the Valpolicella region.
In winemaking, the family works with the most modern technologies and still respects tradition. The basic idea is to make wines that focus on elegance and enjoyment.
Close to the Lucchine vineyard, the region's most modern facility for drying grapes using the Appassimento process was recently built.
Striving for elegance
The flagship of the estate is the Capitel Monte Olmi Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva, one of the first single vineyard crus, first produced in 1964 and awarded with the highest awards over the years. Monte Olmi is the only terraced vineyard of the Tedeschis, 2.5 hectares in size and facing south-west. The Amarone that is created here inspires with its complex aromas, intensity and polished tannins. In very special years, the La Fabriseria vineyard, which is 450 metres above sea level and otherwise results in a Valpolicella Superiore, is also used to produce a multi-award-winning, extraordinarily aromatic and elegant Amarone.
The wines of the Tedeschi winery are appreciated worldwide for their typicality and high quality and have been awarded several times by the best wine guides of the world.
