Alejandro Fernández and the Grupo di Pesquera
If you are talking about wine from the Ribera del Duero region, then the name Alejandro Fernández is bound to fall at some point. The Castilian is considered one of the masters of vinifying the Queen of all Grapes – the Temranillo. When he first began his own production in the 1970s, some people thought he was crazy. The reason was his hang for innovation in an environment dominated by winemakers with outdated production methods. One example of his pioneering was changing the vine training method in his vineyards. The success that followed lead even initially sceptic competitors to adopt his method.
Special Climate – Special Wines
The Duero, an important river, springs from the Pico de Urbión and flows just under 900 km before it empties into the Atlantic Ocean near Porto. Ribera del Duero is considered one of the most important wine growing regions in gilt als eines der bedeutenden Weinanbaugebiete in Castile and Léon and has experienced an upswing since the 1980s, not least due to producers like Alejandro Fernández. The climate is extreme even for Spanish conditions. Summers with temperatures of over 40° C in the shade and winters with double digit temperatures below zero are not unusual. In the winter, the warm Atlantic air from the Gulf Stream winds through the cliffs of the Duero and helps somewhat to balance out its continental climate. The Tempranillo, known locally as tinto fino has compact bunches and thick-skinned grapes. These protect the grapes from cold snaps during the harvest.
