The AMARANTA di Ulisse Montepulciano d' Abruzzo DOC by Tenuta Ulisse is a cru. This powerful Italian red wine flows into the glass in a very full and elegant ruby red colour. On the nose it shows very complex and generous fragrances, with hints of plums, cherry jam and nuances of tobacco with a spicy echo.
On the palate, this impressive Montepulciano d' Abruzzo is well-balanced, complex with pleasing tannins, which are well integrated into the structure. Full-bodied and powerful, excellently balanced alcoholic potential. Long, warm and opulent finish.
A wine of unquestionable class, a wonderful homage full of love and respect to the most important red wine grape of Abruzzo.
The AMARANTA di Ulisse, as well as the other wines of the Tenuta Ulisse, has an excellent price-performance ratio.
Vinification of the Amaranta di Ulisse from Tenuta Ulisse
The grapes for this Cru Montepulciano d' Abruzzo are grown in very old vineyards on vines that have been able to dig their roots in the calcareous, fine clay soil for an average of 30-35 years. The very warm environment and low rainfall, as well as strong fluctuations between day and night temperatures, ensure that the grapes can ripen well but do not lose their acidity.
After a highly selective hand-picked harvest (a part is picked overripe) the grapes are broken up in the Tenuta Ulisse winery, macerated and fermented at a controlled temperature. The Amaranta then matures for 9 to 12 months in high quality French and American oak barriques.
The autochthonous Montepulciano d' Abruzzo has experienced a real renaissance in recent years. The origins of this dark grape are still not known. It has long been attributed to the Sangiovese clone group. Today it is certain that this is a completely independent autochthonous grape variety. It is mainly grown in the Abruzzo region and in the other regions of central and southern Italy. Thanks to some producers and oenologists and their conscientious work, the Montepulciano grape is experiencing a renaissance as one of the red grape varieties of the highest level and quality.
Food recommendation for the AMARANTA Montepulciano d' Abruzzo
Enjoy this full-bodied dry red wine with juicy pasta dishes with strong red sauces, roasts of red and dark meat, game, as well as ripe, spicy cow and sheep's cheese. And why not, even with a tasty Pizza.
The AMARANTA di Ulisse tastes best when served at a temperature of 18°C, i. e. not too warm.
