Vinaria - the trade magazine for wine from Austria

Wine travel, wine knowledge, columns and culinary recommendations - this and more is what the Austrian magazine Vinaria has to offer. Specializing in viticulture along the Danube, from Burgenland to southern Styria, Vinaria is considered the first address for wine from Austria. For more than 40 years now, the team of experts led by editor-in-chief Peter Schleimer has been scrutinizing 6,000 of the best wines from 700 wineries. The crème de la crème then makes it into the Vinaria Wine Guide, which is published annually in July. Being listed here is already considered a prestigious award. But with a good rating, the tasting team puts the crown on a winery - or the star on a wine. Because Vinaria awards crowns to wineries and stars to wines. A maximum of 5 in number. If a wine then receives the predicate TOP, every wine connoisseur knows. This is an absolute top wine from Austria.

How does Vinaria rate?

The Vinaria rating is based on a 20-point system in which various aspects are taken into account. However, since wines with, for example, 19 Vinaria points, in contrast to a wine with 99 Falstaff points, may be less appreciated in the store, it has been decided to convert the points into corresponding symbols. The 20 point system is in no way inferior to the 100 point scale used by Robert Parker and other experts.

Wine rating by Vinaria

Vinaria awards 1 to 5 stars for wines. In addition, selected wines receive an appendage:

  • TOP: A top wine, together with a 5-star rating the highest Vinaria award
  • TIP: A top wine from its category
  • PLV: Excellent price-quality ratio
  • FUN: This wine delivers drinking pleasure

More Vinaria for more Austrian wine

Vinaria clearly focuses on Austrian winemaking and everything around it. But the editors also look beyond the horizon, observing neighboring countries and France. Articles about events and current information about the wine scene complete the bulging magazine. For an insight into the Vinaria cosmos, a visit to vinaria.at is enough. In addition to the aforementioned editorial content, Vinaria also lists the rated wines here.
