Cà Maiol and Lugana - inextricably linked
From the very beginning, the history of the Cà Maiol winery has been linked to the noble white wine Lugana and the Trebbiano grape. The clear starting point is the Milanese Walter Contato, who founded a winery on the southern shore of Lake Garda in 1967.
It was also Walter Contato who, together with other winemakers, laid the foundation for today's Lugana D.O.C. consortium over 50 years ago.
It was Contato's children, after all, who founded today's Cà Maiol winery in 1996. Today, the winery owns a total of 140 hectares of land, not all of which, however, is planted with vines.
Lombardy in the glass - Lake Garda in the nose
Cà Maiol is located right in the heart of the Lugana region between lush vineyards and old, pitoresque farmhouses. The Cà Maiol estate building was built in 1710 and is now the center of the winery.
In the extensive cellar of Cà Maiol, in addition to the classic Trebbiano di Lugana, red grape varieties such as
- Groppello
- BarberaSangiovese
- Marzemino
are processed in stainless steel tanks as well as in French barriques. In addition to classic Lugana, this also produces the excellent Molin Lugana, the red cuvées Joel and Negresco, and the two flagship wines Fabio Contato Lugana and Valtenisi Rosso.
