The Tenuta Badia a Passignano Winery

The Tenuta Badia a Passignano vineyards cover over 50 ha of land below the Monastery of Badia a Passignano. Hundreds of books in the city archives of Florence bear witness to the importance this little community has had on the history of Chianti. These writings document the century-old winemaking tradition of the region. The cellars of the monastery house the winery’s 2000 French oak barriques. In order to be worthy of this history, Antinori cultivates only the best Sangiovese clones that originate from the very old Tignanello vineyards.
Antinori purchased the vineyards surrounding Badia in 1987, and within a very short time, one of the most exclusive wine growing regions with almost perfect quality came into being on this historical piece of land - Tenuta Badia a Passignano. Very close to the monastery entrance, Allegra Antinori opened the little vinotheque ‘La Bottega’ in 1994, which also offers a restaurant, the ‘Osteria di Passignano’. Antinori wines are naturally available from both locations. The wines from Antinori, combined with the idyllic country surrounding the winery, make this a place that no trip to Italy should be complete without.
