The Banyuls Vin Doux Naturel by Gérard Bertrand shimmers in the glass in a ruby red with violet reflections. It unfolds its delicious bouquet with the aromas of sweet ripe cherries, blackberries and black currants. These fruity notes are rounded off by a hint of spicy caramel.
This red wine is full and balanced with the nuances of blackcurrants and blackberries with a pronounced woody note. Hints of cherry jam lead into the long fruity finale, which convinces with fine spices and chocolaty accents.
Vinification for the Gérard Bertrand Banyuls
This French dessert wine is vinified from Grenache Noir (80%) and Grenache Gris (20%). The overripe grapes are selectively hand-picked, completely destemmed and lightly squeezed before starting the traditional fermentation process. Before the end of the alcoholic fermentation, this is stopped by the addition of high-percentage alcohol to the mash. This process is called "mutage sur grains". By this step, this wine preserves its high residual sweetness and reaches its high alcohol content. The extended maceration time of 3 weeks supports the optimal extraction of fruit flavors and tannins.
Part of this red wine is now being matured in oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel tanks to give the Gérard Bertrand Banyuls its interplay of roasted aromas and fresh fruit.
