The Bidoli winery has been family owned and operated for three generations and places emphasis on continuity, vision and expertise.
Bidoli Winery - Family owned for 3 generations
In 1924, the founding father, Cavalier Alessandro Bidoli, laid the foundation for this family winery in San Daniele del Friuli, home of the famous ham of the same name. His son Giobatta later contributed new ideas and momentum without losing sight of tradition. He has since passed on the same love and passion for wine, as well as the business itself, to his own two sons.
A look into the present
Today the winery is run by the oenologist Arrigo Bidoli and his wife Margherita Bidoli, who is responsible for administration and marketing. Together they have turned the family winery into a modern, efficient and state-of-the-art company.
Bidoli masters challenges
The largest challenge was finding the ideal location for building a new cellar and pressing facility: Not far from the vineyards where the grapes ripen, the company seat and production facility can now be found on the property of one of the oldest former brickworks in Friuli, recognised by its typical chimneys and flat, red brick buildings. The many prizes, awards and the recognition of the international wine community bear witness to the high quality of Bidoli wines that enjoy great popularity not least due to their excellent and consistent price-performance ratio.
The Friuli Grave wine region
The wine growing region ‘Friuli Grave’ is located in the northeast of Italy and is divided by the Tagliamento river, which flows between Pordenone and Udine. Its soil is characterised by a high content of river gravel. In the daytime the stones reflect sunlight, which helps the grapes ripen, and at night they also give off warmth. The special soil conditions, the favourable Adriatic climate and the shelter provided by the Dolomites and the Carnic and Julian Alps make for an especially good environment for viticulture.
The wines themselves are characterised by their racy, fruity acidity, with fine and intense aromas in the white varieties and densely structured red varieties.
The grape varieties
The Bidoli winery grows the following grape varieties, among others:
- Chardonnay
- Pinot Grigio
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Merlot
