The Bodega Catena Zapata has made it its vision to produce unforgettable wines, full of character and richness, that reflect Mendoza and remain faithful, because the history of Catena Zapata marks the beginning of the history of Argentine wine.

Catena Zapata Winery - More than 100 years ago

Catena Zapata was founded in 1902 and is known for its pioneering role in the revival of Malbec and the discovery of extremely high terroirs in the foothills of the Andes of Mendoza. Nicolá's grandfather, Nicola Catena, planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in the founding year. This was the starting shot for the Argentine wines.

Today the wines of the Bodega Catena Zapata are produced from six historic vineyards of the estate:

• Angélica
• La Pirámide
• Nicasia
• domino
• Adrianna and
• Angélica Sur.

The family's Adrianna vineyard at an altitude of almost 5,000 feet is known as the Grand Cru of South America.

Nicolas Catena

Like grandfather - like grandson. Nearly. Because the grandfather of the same name only sold the wines openly over many decades. When the young Nicolas Catena took over the responsibility, this was over. After a trip to the Napa Valley, Nicolas Catena knew he wanted to push the quality of Mendoza wines to the top - and he managed to do so. He sold every vineyard that didn't promise premium quality. The only concentration was on the high Andes vineyards.
