Borgo Magredo / Friuli-Venezia Giulia
In 1973 the current owners purchased the 200 ha lands that comprise this estate in Grave del Friuli, located in the community of Spilimbergio in Friuli. They quickly recognized the potential of the vineyard’s stoney, gravelly substrate. Over the next 20 years, and in cooperation with a local nursery, the vineyards were re-planted bit by bit, so that 87 hectares of vineyards are under cultivation today. Borgo Magredo grows the regionally typical Sauvignon, Friuliano, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, as well as the red grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. They have also begun experimenting with Pinot Nero and Moscato Rosa grapes.
A Treat for Both Eye and Palate
When it comes to marketing its wines, Borgo Magredo has proven itself quite original. For one thing, the wine is filled into extravagant bottles – apothecary-like vessels stamped with the winery’s relief – which really stand out. For another, these wines also have colourful, eye-catching labels that provide a distinctive bridge between tradition and modernity.
