The Boschendal Winery
Even the size of the Boschendal winery is impressive: The most famous winery in South Africa is spread out over 3500 hectares. Its name describes the landscape between Simonsberg and the Groot Drakensteinberge quite well. Boschendal comes from the Dutch ‘bossendaal’ – forest and valley. The winery was founded by the Huguenot Jean de Long in 1685 and remained in Hugeunot hands well into the 18th Century. During this period, Boschendal grew in both size and reputation. Today the winery is equipped with modern technology, even its 18th Century cellars.
Boschendal: White and Red
Boschendal produces elegant white and red wines. The white wines are primarily made from the Chardonay and Sauvignon Blanc varietals, and the red wine section of the vineyards is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz grapes. Due to its excellent growing conditions and the size of the estate, Boschendal provides an excellent basis for producing wines with perfectly balanced acidity and sugar content.
