More information about Cabernet Sauvignon Franschhoek - Boekenhoutskloof

The Cabernet Sauvignon from Boekenhoutskloof is an excellent, stylish and characterful red wine from the South African wine-growing region of Franschhoek.

In the glass, this wine glows a deep purple with violet hues. The nose is filled with expressive aromas of dark berry fruits - especially blackberries as well as blueberries - and notes of cigar box and tobacco spice. On the palate, this South African red wine has an exceptionally round and full body, bathed in wonderful aromatics of crème de cassis, black currants, cedar and pencil. The typical vegetal notes are not missing either: red bell pepper and tea leaf come out wonderfully. The very good acidity harmonizes perfectly with the grainy tannins. Both together skillfully balance the dark berry fruit. A complex finish of impressive length and nuances of exotic spice conclude this red wine.

Vinification of the Franschhoek Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grow in four adjacent individual plots on a southwestern part of the Franschhoek Valley. The vines there are rooted in predominantly sandy loam on granitic subsoil.

The grapes are harvested by hand into small boxes. Already in the vineyard, the grapes are selected and gently de-stemmed. Once in the winery of Boekenhoutskloof, the grapes are macerated in concrete vats and then fermented at a controlled temperature of 27 to 30 degrees Celsius. During this process, the mash is frequently pumped over. After alcoholic fermentation, this red wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in 225 liter barriques.

Wood aging takes place for 18 months in French oak barrels.

Food recommendation for the Cabernet Sauvignon Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek

This dry red wine from South Africa is the ideal companion to selected sausage and cheese specialties, fine roast beef in dark sauce or spicy stews.
