The Calzadas Rioja of Bodegas Aradón from La Rioja offers a dense ruby red color in the tilted glass. Holding the glass at a slight angle, a transition of hue towards garnet red can be seen at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. The first nose of Calzadas Rioja reveals nuances of sour cherry, blueberry, blackberry and plum. The fruity components of the bouquet are joined by notes of barrel aging such as toasted wood, coconut and coffee/mocha.

This red wine from Bodegas Aradón is for wine connoisseurs who would prefer 0.0 grams of residual sugar in their wine. The Calzadas Rioja already comes very close to this, it was vinified with just 1.2 grams of residual sugar. This dense red wine is full-bodied and multi-layered on the palate. Due to the balanced fruit acidity, the Calzadas Rioja flatters with a pleasing mouthfeel, without lacking juicy liveliness. The final of this mature red wine from the wine-growing region of La Rioja, more precisely from the Rioja DOCa, finally impresses with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the soils dominated by limestone and clay.

Vinification of Bodegas Aradón Calzadas Rioja

The basis for Bodegas Aradón's premium and wonderfully powerful Calzadas Rioja cuvée is Garnacha, Graciano and Tempranillo grapes. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in La Rioja. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of clay and limestone. The grapes for this red wine from Spain, at the time of optimal ripeness, are harvested particularly quickly and preferably in the morning to preserve their freshness. After the harvest, the grapes are taken to the press house as quickly as possible. Here they are selected and carefully broken up. Fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks and small wood at controlled temperatures. After the end of fermentation, Calzadas Rioja can continue to harmonize on the fine lees for a few months.
