Phoenicians, Romans, missionaries and migrants - they all had wine in their luggage. Wild vines existed millions of years ago, proven viticulture for almost 6,000 years. Today wine is at home all over the world. Between Australia and America, Europe and Asia, North and South - wine countries are everywhere. And every wine country has its own character.

The best wine countries

Dust-dry wastelands, lazy green ridges of hills and stony slopes rising from river valleys - the diversity of terroirs in the winegrowing countries makes up a large part of the diversity of the wine. No wonder, that the different countries present themselves with strengths typical of their country. And every wine gourmet has his or her own individual preferences, which are better served by one country than another. And to ensure that everyone can enjoy wines to his or her own taste, we at VINELLO have brought together a wide variety of wines from the best wine countries in the world. Browse through our wine shop or use the filters on the left-hand side to find your perfect wine step by step.

Wine producing countries in Europe

France - a votre santé

Whoever thinks of wine thinks of God in France. Hardly any other country has so much reputation across all wine regions. Champagne, Bordeaux, Château here Châteauneuf du Pape there. Whether French red wine, white wine, rosé or sparkling wine - wine superlatives can be found in France.

Italy - salute

La dolce vita, unrestrained lust for life and spirited character heads can be experienced with top Italian wine. Spoiled by the sun and unique by tradition. Whether special vinifications à la Ripasso, Appassimento, Amarone or famous specialities such as Barolo, Franciacorta and Brunello - Italian wine is simply part of the absolute enjoyment.

Germany - zum Wohl

What the Romans once brought to Germany has been perfected by the local winegrowers. When it comes to white wine, there is hardly a country that can match the noble and fine wines from Germany's 13 wine regions. And with cheeky, fruity red wines, there are a few surprises from one of the northernmost wine countries in the world.

Spain - salud

When it comes to dust-dry wines from Europe, Spain is always a good choice. The red wines, bursting with fruit and strength, are not only fun for the palate. No less fruit-intensive are the Cava sparkling wines and white wines that flourish in the bodegas of Spain's wine country.

Austria - Prost

The Alpine Republic of Austria is in a state of high spirits. After a few difficult years the Austrian wine developed very well. Surrounded by castles and mountains, the winegrowers create white wines of strong character that are second to none. Autochthonous grape varieties and a fun-loving identity resonate in the mineral wines at all times.

Portugal - saúde

Portugal, a relatively small wine country, probably has the greatest variety of wines. Whether Vinho Verde, fortified wines or outstanding red and white wines - the great seafaring nation, with thick cork oaks and little known grape varieties, opens up the great world of wine in one nation to you.

Switzerland - Pröschtli

For all those who do not yet know about Switzerland as a wine-growing country: this is where the famous Rhône valley begins. With the highest vineyard area in Europe and the Dôle and Fendant wines, which are renowned beyond the Valais, there is plenty to experience and hike in Switzerland.

Hungary -javára

The fertile plains of Hungary culminate in the Tokaj wine region. Here, viticulture has been practised for centuries, which has hardly changed in the form of the famous Tokaj sweet wine. With the wine country Hungary you will be in exquisite company.

Georgia - Gagimardschos

According to some experts, the cradle of cultivated viticulture lies in Georgia - at least traces have been found here dating back to around 6,000 BC. Traditional methods of cultivation have survived to this day, such as maturing in clay amphorae underground. What is new, on the other hand, are the investments that have been made in Georgian viticulture, so that the wine country of Georgia is as good as never before.

Winegrowing countries in South and North America

Argentina - salud

Relatively young and yet at the top of the wine world, Argentina is a figurehead of South America. Up to 3,000 metres, imported vines grow here and present an undreamt of potential. For what produced decent wines in the old world, thrives in the wine country of Argentina at unprecedented heights, or how else could one describe the development of the Malbec.

Chile -salud

Ever since Spanish missionaries and conquistadors gained a foothold in Chile, viticulture in Chile has gone uphill - no wonder with the mighty Andes. Ingenious water systems, hot summers and fresh winds harmonize in Chile to create a unique terroir that is able to reveal all facets of the wines.

USA - cheers

The United States is quite big - there are certainly one or two spots that promise first-class wines. Of course, California, Washington State and Oregon are advancing from the New World into the wine elite - with all the good grape varieties that have made it across the pond.

Wine producing countries in Oceania

Australia - cheers

When a few hundred years ago, ships loaded with migrants and vines docked on the coast of Australia, none of them had dared to dream what Australian wine would achieve. A natural self-image and character of its own, which powerfully distinguishes the wine country from the old world.

New Zealand - kia ora

The wine country New Zealand immediately evokes exotic images and pictures of wild nature. You can find out what that tastes like with New Zealand wine. Known for lively white wines and juicy reds, the far-away wine country shines on the international stage and lets the kiwi wine grow and prosper.

Wine producing countries in Africa

South Africa - gesondheit

Wild, natural and relaxed at the same time is the style of the wine country South Africa. For 350 years now, the winegrowers from the Cape to the hinterland have been pressing top wines that reflect the terroir of South Africa and celebrate the pleasure with a pinch of lightness.

The truly exotic wine countries of the world

Many people are experimenting with grape varieties, whether it is to identify future vineyards or winegrowers who want to spend their retirement with vines. This results in vineyards that are located in some "exotic" countries. England, Sweden and Canada are just a few examples. However, with climate change in the baggage these vineyards could establish themselves at some point.
