More information
The barrel-aged Cerviano Merli Barolo from the Piedmont wine-growing region has a dense ruby red color in the glass. If you tilt the glass slightly, you can see a transition of the color towards garnet red at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. If you give it a little air in the wine glass by swirling it, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which can be seen in strong stained glass windows at the edge of the glass. Poured into a red wine glass, this red wine from the Old World reveals wonderfully expressive aromas of plum, damson, morello cherry and black cherry, rounded off with dark chocolate, cocoa bean and black tea, which are contributed by the ageing in wooden barrels.
This dry red wine from Virna Borgogno is ideal for wine lovers who prefer to drink it bone dry. This dense red wine is full-bodied and multi-layered on the palate. The finish of this mature red wine from the Piedmont wine-growing region, Barolo DOCG to be precise, is impressive with its remarkable persistence. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets from the marl and sandstone-dominated soils.
Vinification of the Virna Borgogno Cerviano Merli Barolo
This powerful red wine from Italy is made from the Nebbiolo grape variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Piedmont. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into soils of clay, limestone, sandstone and marl. The Cerviano Merli Barolo is an Old World wine through and through, as this Italian wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underlines the success of wines from the Old World. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are quickly transported to the winery. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in small wood at controlled temperatures. Once fermentation is complete, the Cerviano Merli Barolo is aged for 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels. The ageing in wooden barrels is followed by a long period of maturation in the bottle, which makes this red wine even more complex.
