More information
Esterházy's Chardonnay Leithaberg from the Austrian DAC Leithaberg wine region in Burgenland is a creamy, varietally pure and excellent white wine.
In the glass, this wine shines a pale straw yellow with light golden highlights. The nose is enchanted by a fruity play of aromas. Ripe apricots and crisp pears reveal themselves - perfectly underpinned by vegetal notes of freshly cut hay, delicate caramel and a hint of flint.
Then on the palate, this Austrian white wine's wonderful mineral explosion - thanks to the Leithaberger limestone - comes to the fore. The smoky minerality is perfectly underlined by notes of black pepper. Thanks to the barrel aging, this wine gains a wonderful creaminess and richness - wonderfully underlined by the savory acidity. The finish has an extraordinary length.
Vinification of the Esterházy Leithaberg Chardonnay
In the St. Margarethen site, grow the Chardonnay grapes on soils rich in sandy shell limestone and clay. The vines have an age of 28 years.
The grapes are harvested by hand and selected already in the vineyard. Once in the Esterhazy winery, the grapes are gently pressed and only the strained must is used. Then this white wine is fermented in 500-liter barrels at a controlled temperature (20 to 24 degrees Celsius). Afterwards, this wine matures for 6 months on the fine lees - also in the 500-liter oak barrels.
Food recommendation for the Esterházy Chardonnay Leithaberg
This dry white wine from Austria is an excellent companion to lobster tail soup, fresh fish in salt crust or even braised veal roast in fine mushroom sauce.
