Chardonnay Ried Lama - Esterházy

The Chardonnay Ried Lama from Esterházy is a magnificent, incomparable and varietal white wine from the single vineyard St. Margarethen Ried Lama in the Austrian wine-growing region Leithaberg / Neusiedlersee-Hügelland.

In the glass, this single-vineyard Chardonnay presents a brilliant straw yellow color. The nose is enchanted by an intense bouquet. It reveals fruity aromas of juicy yellow apples, sun-ripened oranges and ripe pineapple - perfectly underpinned by floral notes of almond blossom, beeswax and subtle nuances of oak spice.

On the palate, this Austrian white wine first presents a fine hint of extract sweetness, perfectly complemented by an invigorating acidity. The body convinces with its wonderfully creamy and dense personality. The finish awaits with a wonderful length and a fine salty minerality.

Vinification of the Esterházy Ried Lama Chardonnay

The 30-year-old vines in the Margarethen Ried Lama site are marked by calcareous loam, gneiss and slate in the subsoil. This is an exceptional vineyard, located on the highest point in the Rust hill country.

Exclusively by hand, the Chardonnay grapes for this white wine are harvested and selected already in the vineyard. Once the grapes arrive at the Esterházy winery, they are pressed whole. The must is then fermented in barrels, with regular stirring of the yeast (bâtonnage) - However, no malolactic fermentation is carried out.

After the fermentation process is completed, this wine is aged in oak barrels for 8 months.
