In Bordeaux there are many famous wineries, which are highly awarded. One of them is the Château Chasse-Spleen, an estate of the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel class. The winery has a 250-year history and is historically linked to Château Poujeaux, another famous winery in Moulis.
Here, gravel-sand soils characterise the terroir, which is considered the best in the appellation. The grape varieties typical of the region, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc are grown here. Fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel vats, Maolactic fermentation and ageing in barriques, 40% of which are renewed every year.
Besides the main wine, a second and third wine are also produced. Qualitatively, the wines are considered to be competitive with the Grand Cru Classé wines.
