Contadi Castaldi and the Soul of Franciacorta

Contadi Castaldi, Franciacorta, a historic wine-growing area, a disused brickworks, a happy childhood. From these elements, one of the most innovative and modern sparkling wine and wineries in the region was created in the 80s.
The name of the company recalls the millennial history of Franciacorta, Contadi were the medieval counties renowned for their excellent agricultural products, Castaldi were the county administrators of these lands. In the 16th century the fertile Franciacorta mainly supplied the patricians and doge of the splendid Republic of Venice with agricultural products and above all wine. However, the area is also known for the activity of its people, who, in the course of industrialisation, opened up new economic sectors, including many brickworks. And in the Fornace Biasca, Mariella, the wife of the entrepreneur Vittorio Moretti, spends the afternoons of a happy childhood with her godmother, who owned the factory. When the brickwork was closed down in the middle of the 20th century, Vittorio Moretti, out of love for his wife, took over the land with the old distillery and the farm on it.

Contadi Castaldi and a sense of wine

As Franciacorta developed into a high-quality, modern wine-growing region, Vittorio and Mariella Moretti decided to transform the old brickworks into a wine company. The size of the former factory, the length of the galleries where bricks were once produced, offer the best conditions and are ideal for maturing Franciacorta sparkling and still wines, but also for welcoming wine lovers in the characteristic atmosphere of a Lombard estate. This is how the former production site is revived, from the soil to the vineyard, from the brick to the wine, with a unique flair and passion.
Contadi Castaldi has specialised more than any other company in Franciacorta in the art of innovation, always searching for the best vineyards and the most passionate winegrowers in the area. This has brought together 92 different vineyards in the best locations with a total of 130 hectares, giving the Franciacorta wines from Contadi Castaldi their terroir character and a wide range of aromas and flavours.

Contadi Castaldi and a sense for delightful aesthetics

The double logo of Contadi Castaldi represents a stylised phase of Franciacorta production: the bottom of the storing sparkling wine bottles in the storage boxes and the optical cross between the bottle bottoms resulting from the arrangement.
For the bottles, the winery was inspired by the aesthetics of the painters Morandi and Brancusi, with elegant and gentle curves and a shortened bottle neck, and at the same time the impression of an enchanting, light creature with perfect shapes. The shorter neck and the round, broad-shouldered body of the bottle offer the sparkling wine ripening in it more space for the maturation on the fine yeast, much to the advantage of the taste and aroma notes, the typical bouquet of a Franciacorta cuvée.

Terra Moretti

Contadi Castaldi is part of Vittorio Moretti's Terra Moretti Group, an entrepreneurial success story in the Franciacorta region. Under this name six wineries in three different wine-growing areas, Franciacorta, Tuscany and Sardinia, two resorts, one in Franciacorta and one in Tuscany, and the construction company Moretti are grouped together.
