A family business for centuries - Cordero di Montezemolo

Although several centuries have passed, the winery has always been family owned. The first documentary mention of viticulture was about 200 years ago. Today the Weinugt is under the management of Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo who, together with his children Elena and Alberto, forms a successful team. Not only he, but also his ancestors always take care to do their work in the interest of nature conservation. For example, only fertilizers of natural and mineral origin are used. All this effort pays off, because the first-class wines are regularly honored with international high-ranking awards and prizes.

Sun-kissed grapes

The vineyards of Cordero di Montezemolo are spread on gentle green hills over an area of about 38 hectares in the small municipality of La Morra in Piedmont. The prestigious towns of Barolo and Alba are in the immediate vicinity. The soils of the first-class vineyards consist mainly of sandstone and calcareous marl. The area is characterized by a moderate continental climate and is spoiled by many hours of sunshine. For each type of grape, the most suitable soil and sun exposure is selected before planting to ensure the best results. These varieties are cultivated:

• Barbera
• Dolcetto
• Nebbiolo
• Chardonnay

A recommendation is...

...clearly the excellent red wine Enrico VI Barolo, which has already received the coveted three glasses of Gambero Rosso several times. It is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown on the historic vineyard, which covers only 2 hectares. This wine is allowed to mature for example 20 months in French oak barrels. The top-class Barolo shines with a garnet red color and spoils the nose with scents of eucalyptus, liquorice and cinnamon. The finish of this powerful and complex wine from the Cordero di Montezemolo estate seems almost endless. But not only the Enrico VI Barolo, but also the other excellent red and white wines of Cordero di Montezemolo are worth a clear recommendation and know how to please with their fine character.
