The Crianza Tempranillo of Áster from the Spanish wine region DO Ribera del Duero in Castile - León is a varietal, balanced and elegant red wine.
In the glass, this wine shimmers in a rich cherry red with deep dark shades - going into black. The nose is dominated by intense notes of wild berries - especially currant and blackberry stand out. They are joined by floral notes of violet and hints of fennel. In the background, sweet spices, bay leaves, black olives, licorice, cedar, incense, tobacco leaves and cocoa powder can be perceived. Powerful with a great structure, this Spanish red wine presents itself on the palate. The pleasant acidity harmonizes wonderfully with the creamy tannins. The pleasantly long finish reveals dark fruits and some licorice.
Vinification of the Áster Crianza Tempranillo
The Tempranillo grapes come from the vineyards Fuentecojo, Otero, Joven and La Cueva. They grow on silty clay soils at an altitude of almost 780 meters above sea level.
By hand, the grapes are harvested in the early morning hours. Only perfect grapes are cut. Once in the Áster winery, the berries are selected, destemmed and gently pressed. The grapes are then fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. In French oak barrels, this wine undergoes malolactic fermentation with weekly bâttonages for 2 months.
Finally, this red wine rounds off for 22 months in French oak barrels. Of these, 70% are new wood and 30% are second growth.
