Richard Wagner would certainly have liked the Cygnus Sicilia DOC by Tenuta Regaleali by Tasca d'Almerita. And not only because it indirectly gave its name to this full-bodied and elegant Sicilian red wine.
The Cygnus by Tenuta Regaleali presents itself in dark ruby red in the glass. On the nose a complex bouquet unfolds, it smells of liquorice and bark, followed by blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and cherries, tobacco and chocolate. On the palate, this beautiful red wine from Tasca captivates with its balanced structure and full body, finely ground, beautifully integrated tannins and its pleasant natural acidity. The long, persistent finish is characterised by fruity fullness, harmony and spiciness.
Vinification of the Cygnus Sicilia by Tenuta Regaleali
For this red wine, the Nero d'Avola (55-60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40-45%) grape varieties are combined in a cuvée. After the separate manual harvest, the two grape varieties are traditionally vinified separately at controlled temperature in red, with maceration on the skins and complete malolactic fermentation. The two musts are then brought together and matured in French oak barriques from Troncais and Allier, 30% new barriques, 70% barriques in second and third use, for a period of 14 months. After bottling, another 4 months of bottle maturing follow.
The name Cygnus was inspired by Richard Wagner and the swan that swam on the castle pond of the Tasca d'Almerita estate. The composer was a guest of the Tasca family in Sicily in 1881 when he was working on the completion of his opera Parzival. A clear homage to the great German musician, a wine with a Sicilian heart and international character, with finesse, elegance, sweetness and complexity.
Food pairing for the Cygnus Sicilia DOC from Tasca d'Almerita
Enjoy this characterful red from Sicily with pasta with strong sauces, tasty meat dishes, red meat, game, spicy cheeses. A wine that is also suitable as a soloist for an evening with friends or by the fireplace, perhaps cheerfully paired with the sound of Wagner's Parzival.
