More information about Verdelho - Mainova

The first nose of Verdelho presents notes of pineapple and lemons. The fruity notes of the bouquet are joined by even more fruity and balsamic nuances.

This white wine from Mainova is perfect for wine lovers who prefer to drink it bone dry. The Verdelho comes very close to this, as it was produced with just 0.5 grams of residual sugar. On the palate, this balanced white wine is characterized by an incredibly crisp and light texture. Thanks to its present fruit acidity, Verdelho is fantastically fresh and lively on the palate. The finish of this white wine from the Alentejo region is convincing with good persistence. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes from the granite and slate-dominated soils.

Vinification of the Mainova Verdelho

The basis for the balanced Verdelho from Alentejo are grapes from the Gouveio grape variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Alentejo. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into soils of slate and granite. When perfect physiological ripeness is ensured, the grapes for the Verdelho are harvested exclusively by hand without the use of stressful and barely selective harvesters. After manual harvesting, the grapes are transported to the press house as quickly as possible. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. At the end of fermentation, the Verdelho is allowed to continue harmonizing on the fine lees for a few months.

Dining recommendations for the Verdelho from Mainova

This Portuguese wine is best enjoyed chilled at 8 - 10°C. It is perfect as an accompaniment to cabbage roulades, spinach gratin with almonds or fruity endive salad.
