The barrel-aged Ruby from the Douro & Porto wine-growing region is a dense purple-red in the glass. With a little time in the glass, Fortified Wine from Portugal offers wonderfully youthful aromas of raspberry and blackberry, rounded off by further fruity nuances that are contributed by the ageing in wooden barrels.

The powerful Niepoort Ruby shows us an incredibly fruity taste on the palate, which is of course due to its residual sweet taste profile. The fruit acidity of the Ruby is pleasantly mild and makes this wine wonderfully smooth. On the finish, this wine from the Douro & Porto region impresses with its beautiful length. There are again hints of raspberry and blackberry. Mineral notes from the slate-dominated soils are added to the finish.

Vinification of the Ruby from Niepoort

This powerful Ruby from Portugal is a cuvée made from the Tempranillo, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Francisca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional grape varieties. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Douro & Porto. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into slate soils. The grapes for the Ruby are harvested exclusively by hand at the time of optimum ripeness without the use of coarse and less selective machines.

Dining recommendations for Niepoort Ruby

This Portuguese fortified wine is best enjoyed at a temperature of 15 - 18°C. It goes perfectly with fruity endive salad, roasted trout with ginger pear or vegetable salad with beetroot.
