DFJ Vinhos was founded in 1897 in Portugal. It is located in Valada on the Río Tajo.
José Neiva Correia is not only responsible for the wines at DFJ Vinhos, he is also considered one of Portugal's most renowned oenologists. In accordance with the motto, 'Grand wines for little money,' his broad repertoire is made up not only of wines from grapes grown in grand crus with limited harvests, it also includes wines that are easy to sell and fulfil the tastes of the international market. The vintner himself was born and raised on the estate Quinta de Porto Franco: Even today, a large portion of the grapes used to produce DFJ wines are grown in this 200 ha region, which historians describe as the oldest in the nation. Its origins can likely be traced back to the time before Portugal was founded. José Neiva Correia's ancestors – both on his father's and His mother's side – were involved in wine making. Along with his studies in Germany and the Bordeaux, his long family tradition in winemaking is certainly one of the reasons for Correia's oenological expertise. He creates his wines with creativity and enthusiasm, and is never afraid of innovation: Correia was responsible for the introduction of new grape varieties to Portugal and also has a patent for a closure solution for bottles which uses ozone to disinfect the corks.
