Singer and winegrower in one

Some may remember the Swiss pop duo Yello with singer Dieter Meier, or at least their song "The Race" which served as the theme song for the music show "Formula 1". But not only the music is a passion of the multifaceted artist, but also the ecological agriculture. Dieter Meier has been a convinced organic farmer in Argentina for years - he breeds cattle in the Pampa Humeda and produces PURO wines in Agrelo Alto. Both with organic certificate (ArgenCert).

Agrelo Alto, as dry as mineral-rich

Agrelo Alto is considered the best wine-growing area of Mendoza. The dry, stony, sandy soils are very rich in minerals. The result of millions of years of alluvial deposits with the meltwater of the Andes. The meltwater also fills the rivers and groundwater lakes of the area, from which the winegrowers derive their part for the targeted irrigation of the vineyards. Without irrigation, not much would go on in the dust-dry vineyards. Only the careful supply of droplets of moisture guarantees the regular quality of the grapes.

But the dryness has above all good sides. It protects the vines from fungal diseases and rot; an enormous advantage, especially for organic viticulture, which consistently refrains from using fungicides or other chemical pesticides! In addition, the climate is ideal for viticulture. Warm days and cool nights give the grapes enough time to develop their full maturity and at the same time preserve a fresh acidity. With strong grape variety expression and a fine balance of aromatic fruit, acidity, gently matured tannin and alcohol, they form the perfect basis for Dieter Meier's PURO top wines.

The grape varieties

With great dedication, Dieter Meier accompanies the vines through the entire process - from the bud to the finished wine. The grape varieties are mainly used:

• Malbec
• Cabernet Sauvignon
• Cabernet franc
• Syrah

and also the white grape variety Torrontes vinified.
