Domaine de la Baume - the natural heart of wine
Located in the heart of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the small village of Servian, between Béziers and the medieval town of Pézenas, the winery Domaine de la Baume is a source of inspiration. A true haven of peace in the midst of nature, it embodies the warmth of the south, conviviality, sharing, but also a love of the land. A lonely path leads to the magnificent wrought-iron gate decorated with a J and a P in honour of the founder, Jean Prat.
The history of Domaine de la Baume
In 1882, Jean Prat the Elder, a visionary of the 19th century, took over the Domaine de la Baume, which had lain fallow since the outbreak of phylloxera. With the help of his sons, he restored 100 hectares of vineyards within 20 years, exported his production abroad and opened a shop in Paris in 1900. After several changes of ownership between 1947 and today, it was Joseph Helfrich, CEO of the Grands Chais de France group and a visionary of the 21st century, who took over the management of this wonderful estate in 2003, giving it the international recognition it deserved. Backed by its history and terroir, Domaine de la Baume today produces authentic wines for authentic wine lovers.
Domaine de la Baume and the surrounding terroir
The soils in the vineyards of Domaine de la Baume are very diverse: while the slopes are limestone, the plateaus are clay-limestone and sandy-loam. This rich terroir allows for the production of numerous wines, ranging from an easy-drinking style to more subtle wines. In any case, they offer a wide range of aromas.
To achieve this, various grape varieties are grown at Domaine de la Baume:
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Chardonnay
- Viognier
- Pinot Noir
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Merlot
- Petit Verdot
- Marselan
- Syrah
The Terres de la Baume wines
At the top of the portfolio are the wines called "Terres de la Baume". These are produced in very small quantities and are a remarkable example of the quality potential of Languedoc Roussillon. These exceptional wines were created from the best parcel of the estate called "Terre de la Baume". The two vintages are the result of a rigorous selection process carried out by the estate's own staff, and they are both an expression of the estate's highest quality expectations. The 12-month ageing in French oak barrels has favoured the development of the complexity of these wines. The barrels used for both vintages were very carefully selected before the final blend.
Award-winning wines from Languedoc
Domaine de la Baume already has a very successful history with its wines and continues to do so to the present day. In the last 5 years, they have received over 50 awards for their wines. Among them are awards from industry giants like Decanter, Wine Enthusiast, the IWC (International Wine Contest) or the eminence Robert Parker.
