Three Donà History

Tenuta La Palazza is situated on the ancient hills of Romagna between the towns of Forlì, Castrocaro and Predappio, in a strategic position at the mouth of the Rabbi and Montone river valleys, around one of the watchtowers built by Caterina Sforza in 1481 to defend her territory. The winery has belonged to the Counts Drei Donà since the 1920s and has always been dedicated to the production of Sangiovese grapes. In 1980 Claudio Drei Donà gave up the legal profession to devote himself full time to the business and winemaking, he was followed by his son Enrico, who began a radical work of change that gave a decisive turn to the estate.

Three Donà and wine production with environmental sustainability

The rigorous work in the vineyard according to the guidelines of organic farming, the protection of biodiversity on the estate, the fine and selective work in the cellar and the slow refinement in the barrel are your expression to bring the terroir of Massa with life in the glass. They began sustainable vineyard management in 1992. In 1998 they reduced the weight of the bottles, saving 48000 tons of CO2 per year. From 2002 they introduced packaging made of recycled cardboard into production. In 2010 they achieved energy independence by commissioning the new photovoltaic system.

Three Donà wine varieties

Of the 23 hectares of vineyards, most are naturally Sangiovese planted, moreover:

• Cabernet Sauvignon
• Chardonnay
• Riesling

The vineyards of the estate produce the Sangiovese Predappio Doc "Notturno", the Riserva Cru "Vigna del Pruno" and, only in the best years, "Count Noir", dedicated to the founder. In addition, two small wineries also produce a white "Il Tornese" made from Chardonnay and Riesling grapes and the "Magnificat", the historic Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate also produces two aged grappas and a small quantity of extra virgin olive oil. The special names of the wines are worth mentioning, as they were all baptized with the names of the horses of the family's small breeding stable.
