Originally the Englishman John Stair created the most aromatic of all pear brandies. However, the English preferred the name "Williams' bon chrétien", which had been given to it by a fruit grower. The pear, which was distilled when overripe, impresses with particularly intense fruitiness and a fine hint of vanilla.
