Werner Schönleber has been running the winery on the western edge of the Nahe wine-growing region for around 40 years. Winegrowing is in his blood, because his ancestors named Emrich demonstrably pursued this passion as early as in the middle of the 18th century. The vineyards are still owned by the family today. Together with his wife Hanne, his son Frank and his daughter-in-law Anja, Werner Schönleber has greatly expanded the vineyard since 1965. On about 19 hectares, the family grows Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, as well as 85% high-quality Riesling. In the meantime, the Emrich-Schönleber w inery has received numerous awards, as the wines are exclusively of first-class quality. The Emrich-Schönleber winery has been a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) since 1994.
Kissed by the sun
Not far from the Nahe, a small tributary of the Rhine, the Monzing vineyards lie to the south of a large area of forest. This leads to a relatively cool wine-growing climate. However, the steep south and southwest slopes on the Monzinger Halenberg and the Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen offer perfect growing conditions. Here the vines are pampered with almost 2000 hours of sunshine per year and later produce the high-class wines. These top vineyards of the winery alone take up about 17 hectares of the total cultivated area. The vines grow on stony soils strongly marked by slate and are allowed to enjoy elaborate and gentle manual work. These vines produce particularly aromatic, small-berried grapes.
Wines with distinction
Werner Schönleber 's work is mainly done in the midst of his vines. His son Frank shows his talent primarily in the cellar of the winery. Both men share a certain feeling for wine. All this gives them the ability to get the best out of the grapes and to produce very high-quality wines. Their special intuition, commitment, hard work and their own philosophy have regularly led to well-deserved awards for 20 years now. Among them are for example the award "Winemaker of the Year", "Best Riesling", "Best matured Spätlese" and many more. The winery Emrich-Schönleber serves among others the orientations dry to semi-dry, fruity-sweet and noble-sweet. The dry varieties include, for example, the Monzinger Riesling "Frühtau" and the Riesling "Mineral".
