Eugenio Collavini is a successful family business and has been writing its history since 1896.
At home in top gastronomy
In the beginning it was just a company with the task of supplying regional noble families north of the Italian Adriatic. During the dark years of the two world wars, the son of the founder Giovanni managed the company, before it was passed on to Manilo Collavini in the 1960ies. Collavini transferred the wine estate to the league of top qualities by means of a restructuring as well as a new oenological orientation. It was him who relied on the fermentation of Pinot Grigio without skins. This was to lead to the successful 'il Grigio' spumante, which was so important for the Eugenio Collavini winery because it was decisive in paving the way to Italy's top gastronomy. It was also Manilo who moved the headquarters and the winery to Corno di Rosazzo. Here he found the Castello of the noble family Zucco-Cuccanea, built in 1560, in a favorable location.
The grape varieties at Eugenio Collavini
The Eugenio Collavini winery cultivates 160 hectares of vineyards. The winegrowers strive to produce the highest quality wines typical of the region. This is also expressed in the selection of varieties and the ratio of white wine to red wine varieties. The location in the southern foothills of the Alps as well as the fertile alluvial soils with a loess/clay content are ideal for the grapes cultivated by the winery
White wine varieties
- Pinot Grigio
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Chardonnay
- Picolit
- Ribolla Galla
- Tocai Friulano
They all have a share of about 66%. In this ideal terroir, the wines develop their unmistakable freshness and elegance, coupled with lush aromas. The remaining areas serve with about 20% for the cultivation of
Red wine varieties:
- Cabernet
- Merlot
- Schioppettino and
- Refosco dal Piduncolo
The remaining 14 percent are used for sparkling wine production at Eugenio Collavini.
Red wines are also perfectly balanced here
Even though the region is known for its white wines, the Eugenio Collavini winery proves that red wines with a great density and a balanced tannin structure can also be produced here, if the right sorts of grapes are selected and if they are vinified and aged in the right way.
