More information
The powerful Fossati Barolo Enzo Boglietti glides into the glass with a dense ruby red color. If you hold the glass at a slight angle, you can see a transition of the wine's color towards garnet red at the edges of this barrel-aged wine. When the glass is swirled, this red wine reveals a high level of viscosity, which can be seen in the strong stained glass windows at the edge of the glass. Poured into a Bordeaux glass, this red wine from the Old World presents wonderfully expressive aromas of lilac, rose, mulberry and lavender, rounded off by black tea, vanilla and cocoa bean, which are contributed by the ageing in wooden barrels.
This wine impresses with its elegantly dry taste. It was bottled with exceptionally low residual sugar. This is a genuine quality wine that clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so, despite its dryness, this Italian naturally delights with the finest balance. Excellent taste does not necessarily need sugar. This dense red wine is full-bodied and multi-faceted on the palate. The finish of this mature red wine from the Piedmont wine-growing region, Langhe DOC to be precise, is impressive with a remarkable aftertaste. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets from the soils dominated by sandstone and marl.
Vinification of Fossati Barolo by Enzo Boglietti
The basis for the powerful Fossati Barolo from Piedmont are grapes from the Nebbiolo grape variety. In Piedmont, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on clay, limestone, sandstone and marl soils. The Fossati Barolo is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this Italian wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underlines the success of wines from the Old World. Once perfect physiological ripeness has been ensured, the grapes for the Fossati Barolo are harvested exclusively by hand without the help of coarse and less selective harvesters. After the harvest, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in concrete, small wood and large wood at controlled temperatures. At the end of this process, the Fossati Barolo is aged for a few months in oak barriques.
