History of the Fritz Allendorf family winery
The story begins with Philipp Anton Allendorf, who in 1773 laid the foundation stone for the winery, which is still in family hands today. Even from then on, it was to take a good 200 years before one could justifiably speak of the "Allendorf Winery". in 1963, the family moved out of the much too small estate in the Winkeler Hauptstraße into the vineyards and laid the foundation stone for the Georgshof. Named after Uli and Christel's grandfather. Today, Weingut Allendorf is the largest family-run vineyard in the Rheingau, with approximately 75 hectares, and exports its wines all over the world.
Allendorf is a VDP member and thus implements the VDP.KLASSIFIKATION in its work. This private law statute defines the quality of a wine according to the "terroir"-the origin combined with the quality. The site is the focus of the work: to preserve its character and to produce typical, elegant and ripe Rheingau wines, that is the maxim of the family.
Cellar master with time and understanding
When it comes to processing, ripening, filling and also when it comes to developing one's own style and pushing it forward year after year, the most important factor is time. The careful handling of the vines and the soil in the vineyard is followed by the consistently gentle treatment of the grapes on the winepress and in the cellar. The must is processed in the cellar with as little mechanics and pumps as possible. Depending on the characteristics of the musts, which Max sensory determines during the harvest, the whites are fermented in 500-liter tonneaux, large traditional piece and double piece barrels of local oak or stainless steel. Red wines are fermented and aged in used large wooden barrels or French barriques.
Get to know Weingut Allendorf at the estate bar
Not only do the Allendorfs and Schönlebers like to eat delicious food themselves, they also let their guests share in it. In the months of May and June, as well as in September and October, the Georgshof opens its Gutsausschank with regional cuisine. From Tafelspitz,Wisperforelle, Spundkäs or Handkäs offer the basis for a long, sunny afternoon, which can then sometimes turn into an enjoyable evening. Under the vine canopy in the courtyard of the winery, all the wines of the family can then not only be tasted, but also drunk. These grape varieties can be tasted from Weingut Allendorf already here in the bar:
- Riesling
- Chardonnay
- Müller-Thurgau
- Schönburger
- Pinot Noir
