Fürstlich Castell’sches Domänenamt

Today, the Castell winery in Franconia consists of seven vineyards - the core of the 70 hectare winery. The surrounding vineyards of the Schlossberg mountain are characterized by the continental climate of Franconia and the strong gypsumkeuper soils of the Steigerwald. The first documentary mention of the most important vineyards of Schlossberg, Hohnart, Reitsteig and Trautberg dates back to 1266, the Silvaner, first planted in Castell soil in 1659, is at home in the Franconian climate and soil, and occupies almost 40 percent of the majority of Castell's vineyards - it is part of our identity. In addition to other grape varieties, the estate also concentrates on Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.
