The Goldberg Spätburgunder from the Wageck winery in the German wine-growing region of Bissersheim of the Goldberg site in the Palatinate is an excellent, expressive and varietally pure red wine. 

In the glass, this wine shimmers a rich ruby red with cherry red highlights. The expressive bouquet reveals a polished aroma of a potpourri of red and black berries, juicy morello cherry and ripe pomegranate. In addition, there are fine hints of tobacco and a subtle wood spice. A hint of coriander lingers in the background. This German red wine has tight tannins that give the Goldberg Spätburgunder its bite. The lasting body with firm, dense structure gives this wine its depth. The minerality is still somewhat restrained, but already gives this wine a very animating, elegant style. The finish has a wonderful length and is accompanied by recurring wood spice. 

Vinification of the Wageck Goldberg Pinot Noir 

The plot of Pinot Noir grapes for this red wine is located in the Bissersheimer Goldberg "IN DER HALDE". The vines grow at an elevation of about 160 meters, have a strong southern exposure of 30% and are rooted in calcareous clay marl overlying a massive limestone rock. The vines were planted in 2006. 

The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September and selected while still in the vineyard. Once the grapes arrive at the Wageck winery, they are re-sorted at the sorting table. The maceration period is 11 days, with daily punching down. This is followed by a spontaneous maceration of 3 weeks. The malolactic fermentation is also spontaneous. Finally, this wine rounds off harmoniously in barriques.

Enjoy this dry red wine from Germany with braised beef in dark sauce, rabbit ragout with ribbon noodles or also with selected, somewhat spicy sausage specialties.
