The team of the Graham Beck Winery stands united behind one goal: the perfect bubble.
Graham Beck - in search of the perfect bubble
What it takes Ffor the perfect bubble is to be found not far from the town of Robertson in South Africa, on the vineyards and in the cellar of Graham Beck. Vinified in accordance with the Méthode Cap Classique, the world-renowned producer creates outstanding and bubbly sparkling wines that are based on passion and pride in every step.
Sparkling wine from South Africa by Graham Beck
The family-run winery was founded in 1983 by entrepreneur Graham Beck, who bought Madeba Farm outside Robertson to lay the foundations for a world-class winery in the region.
A second wine cellar was soon added in Franschhoek, South Africa's oldest wine growing region. After the own vineyards were extended towards Stellenbosch and Swartland, there was the possibility of growing and bottling in Stellenbosch. All measures are primarily aimed at preserving the optimal quality of the harvest and to take advantage of the diversity of the South African terroir.
For almost 30 years no one less than Pieter Ferreira - also known as "Mr. Bubbles" - has been responsible for the Cap Classique range at Graham Beck. His previous stations were: Moet et Chandon, Mumm and Champagne Vessel. Weingourmet writes: "The best producer of sparkling wine in South Africa is still Pieter Ferreira - he is even said to have bubbles in his blood.
The sparkling wine
Graham Beck sparkling wines made according to the Méthode Cap Classique, the same process used to make champagne, reveal themselves in the glass full of elegance and pleasure. In all 3 categories not only the individual strengths of the diverse plots resonate, but also up to 49 million bubbles per bottle. The timeless enjoyment of Graham Beck sparkling wines is due to the carefully selected and hand-picked vines that thrive on the limestone soils. Thanks to the large temperature differences between day and night, the vines ripen to perfection. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thus form a harmonious unity of buttery and tropical aromas and rich structure as well as nuances of red berries. The recipe has remained unchanged for years and has always reflected the finesse and consistent quality of South African sparkling wines from Robertson. From selective hand-harvesting and extremely gentle pressing to fermentation in stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, the steps prior to bottle fermentation shape the wine in noble elegance, while unwanted biting tannins or acidity are lost.
The 3 sparkling wine categories
The winery's portfolio is divided into three stages that authentically pave the Graham Beck Way.
- Non Vintage: A cuvée from different vintages and vineyards that guarantees a consistently high quality. The house sparkling wine is the result of the finest precision in blending, combining the best base wines so that the typical Graham Beck style brings drinking pleasure to the world every year.
- Vintage Collection: Extraordinary base wines of a vintage are given the honour of being vinified as Vintage Collection. Only the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from individual vineyards reach the cellar.
- Prestige Collection: Absolute top sparkling wines from Graham Beck are listed under the Prestige Collection. The winery is particularly proud of these wines, as they are exemplary for the highest quality in every step. From the vintage to the base wine to the outstanding sparkling wine - Prestige from Graham Beck is considered the best of the Breede River Valley.
