Gran Malbec 2014 - Bodega Piedra Negra
The Gran Malbec from Bodega Piedra Negra is an excellent Argentine red wine from the Mendoza wine region of the Chacayes vineyard.
In the glass this wine shines in a deep cherry red with purple highlights. The spicy fruity bouquet convinces the nose with expressive aromas of dark berries - especially blueberry, mulberry and black currant, juicy black cherries and warm spices such as cloves and nutmeg. Thanks to the ageing of oak wood, nuances of toasted toast, coffee, vanilla and mild tobacco are added.
The medium body pampers the palate with a juicy, elegant structure and a concentrated fullness of fruit. The structured tannins are densely and clearly woven into this Argentine red wine. A wonderfully harmonious and balanced red wine, which shines in the finish with an excellent length.
Vinification of Gran Malbec by Piedra Negra
The Malbec grapes grow at about 1100 m altitude in the vineyard Vista Flores in Mendoza. The harvest is done exclusively by hand in 20kg crates. Once in the cellar, the grapes are strictly selected on vibrating sorting tables. The selected berries are first crushed cold for 3 days and then fermented at a controlled temperature (26 degrees Celsius) in coated concrete vats. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine remains on the skins for 2 weeks. This removes further colour pigments, aromas and soft tannins from the berry skins. Finally, this red wine is aged in one-year-old French oak barriques for a total of 18 months.
Food recommendation for the Piedra Negra Gran Malbec
This dry red wine from Argentina is an excellent accompaniment to wild boar ragout, pasta dishes in spicy sauces or matured cheese and Bayonne ham. We recommend that you open this red wine at least 2 hours before eating it.
