The Guaglione Irpinia Aglianico from I Capitani in Campania offers a bright, purple-red color in the glass. If you hold the glass at a slight angle, you can see a transition of the color towards violet at the edges. The nose of this I Capitani red wine reveals all kinds of plums, black cherries, morello cherries and damsons. As if that wasn't already impressive, the stainless steel ageing process adds brittle, roasted almonds and walnuts to the mix.
The Guaglione Irpinia Aglianico from I Capitani is the right wine for all wine drinkers who like as little residual sugar in their wine as possible. However, it is never sparse or brittle, as you would naturally expect from a wine in the upper price range. On the palate, the texture of this balanced red wine is wonderfully velvety and dense. The Guaglione is wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate thanks to its concise fruit acidity. The finish of this red wine from the Campania wine-growing region, more precisely from Irpinia DOC, ultimately impresses with a remarkable aftertaste.
Vinification of the I Capitani Guaglione Irpinia Aglianico
The basis for the balanced Guaglione Irpinia Aglianico from Campania are grapes from the Aglianico grape variety. In Campania, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of sedimentary and weathered rock. Guaglione is an Old World wine through and through, as this Italian wine exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underlines the success of wines from the Old World. The grapes for the Guaglione Irpinia Aglianico are harvested exclusively by hand at optimum ripeness, without the help of coarse and less selective harvesters. After harvesting, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by maturation on the fine lees for several months before the wine is finally bottled.
