Hammeken Cellars, located in the Spanish town of Jávea on the Mediterranean Sea, specializes in modern Spanish wines. Halfway from Valencia to Alicante, Hammeken has set itself a very clear goal: to bring the most Spanish of the Spanish grape varieties to the top. To this end, Hammeken Cellars has secured vineyards in many Spanish DOs and can now boast multiple award-winning wines from more than 18 different Spanish wine-growing regions.
Hammeken - the best vines in Spain
Hammeken's strategy is simple. No geographical restrictions. The winery's 5 winemakers and top oenologists scour vineyards from Andalusia to Navarre, constantly searching for old vines with low yields and grapes of the highest quality. What comes out in the end is the highest quality at a competitive price.
It all started in 1996 when Danish-born Nicholas Hammeken, after stints in France, Germany and the UK, came to Spain and saw vineyard potential here that he hadn't found anywhere else. Today, more than 20 years later, Hammeken is considered by not a few to be the successor of such greats as Eric Solomon or Jorge Ordoñez. The first step to great wines are expressive vines. Hammeken now has vines up to 120 years old, which, combined with low yields, produce wonderfully expressive wines.
Today, Hammeken Cellars produces wines in such prestigious wine-growing regions as
- Bierzo
- Jumilla
- Somontano
- Rias Baixas
- Yecla
excellent wines. Of course, tempranillos from Ribera del Duero and Rioja are not to be missed.
