The barrel-aged Nico Espenschied Herz+Hand Pinot Gris from the winegrowing region of Rheinhessen reveals itself in the glass in brilliantly shimmering copper gold. Ideally poured into a white wine glass, this white wine from the Old World presents delightfully youthful aromas of blueberry, mulberry, black currant and blackberry, rounded off by vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa bean contributed by aging in wooden barrels.
This wine delights with its elegantly dry flavor. It was bottled with only 2.8 grams of residual sugar. As you would naturally expect from a wine in the upper price range, this German wine naturally enraptures with the finest balance despite all its dryness. Aroma doesn't necessarily need a lot of sugar. On the palate, the texture of this light-bodied white wine is wonderfully melting. With its present fruit acidity, the Nico Espenschied Herz+Hand Pinot Gris reveals itself wonderfully fresh and lively on the palate. In the finish, this storable white wine from the wine-growing region of Rheinhessen finally inspires with good length. There are again hints of blueberry and mulberry. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the limestone-dominated soils join in.
Vinification of the Nico Espenschied Herz+Hand Pinot Gris
The basis for the elegant Nico Espenschied Herz+Hand Pinot Gris from Rheinhessen are grapes from the grape variety Pinot Gris. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Rheinhessen. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of limestone. Moreover, the grapes of this white wine do not grow in the flat land, but dig their roots into the soil in steep slopes. The steep slope cultivation ensures that even in cooler regions with less long growing seasons, the vines catch a maximum of sun. After the hand harvest, the grapes reach the press house by the fastest route. Here they are selected and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in large wood at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by aging for several months in oak barrels.
