More information
The Kalkmergel Spätburgunder from the Wageck winery is a fruity, fresh, varietal and excellent red wine from the German wine-growing region of Pfalz.
In a bright cherry red, this wine appears in the glass. A polished bouquet enchants the nose. It reveals aromas of juicy red berries, ripe cherries and subtle hints of pomegranate. In addition, spicy nuances of pepper, floral notes and a subtle hint of herbs. On the palate, the ripe, juicy fruitiness is wonderfully present and perfectly integrated into the full body. The delicate acidity is also very well integrated, giving this wine a certain depth and persistence on the palate. The pleasantly long finish is accompanied by spicy hints.
Vinification of the Wageck Kalkmergel Pinot Noir
A high level of quality is exhibited by all Wageck wines of the house. The grapes for the Kalkmergel Spätburgunder also ripen on barren, chalky sites.
The Pinot Noir grapes are carefully harvested by hand in mid-September in vats and selected. As soon as the grapes arrive at the Wageck winery, they are destemmed, sorted again and crushed. After 7 days, the 3-week spontaneous fermentation begins. This is also followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation.
Once the fermentation process is complete, this wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barriques.
Food recommendation for the Pinot Noir Wageck Kalkmergel
Serve white meat and German cuisine with this dry red wine. Creamy cheeses and pasta dishes, as well as fine poultry, such as pheasant, also go well with this wine. We strongly recommend decanting the Wageck Kalkmergel Spätburgunder.
