Schreckbichl from South Tyrol

Schreckbichl was founded in 1960 in South Tyrol, where it is unique in its harmony of contrasts, where north and south, the German-speaking and Italian worlds meet. Snow-capped mountains and fertile valleys create a harmonious symbiosis in a breathtaking climate between the Mediterranean and the Alps. This results in an exciting microcosm that produces wines full of character. In the southern part of the country, about 10 kilometers from the capital city of Bolzano, lies the Überetsch and the municipality of Eppan directly on the wine route. A fascinating hilly landscape from the last ice age, interspersed with picturesque villages. Eppan an der Weinstraße itself is the largest contiguous wine-growing area in South Tyrol.

Schreckbichl in South Tyrol

One of the most famous and oldest wine villages in South Tyrol is Girlan an der Weinstraße. Schreckbichl is a small village on the outskirts of Girlan and also looks back on an ancient wine history. As early as 1200, its vineyards and wine were mentioned under the name "vinum schrechpuhlensis". The village Schreckbichl is the namesake of the winery, as the founding members all come from Schreckbichl. You do not look back on a long history, and you are not a family business. You are one of the youngest wineries in South Tyrol and there are not one, but 300 families behind the winery. They work in the vineyards all year round - some only as a sideline - and deliver their precious, hand-picked grapes every autumn.

The foundation of Schreckbichl

More than 300 winegrowers form a unit and come together in the Schreckbichl Winery. Together with their families and friends, they work in their vineyards all year round and then deliver their precious grapes to the winery in autumn. These are then refined by the cellar masters into great wines which are then either left to rest or bottled.
