La Monaca Monreale DOC 2016 - Sallier de La Tour
Tenuta Sallier de la Tour's La Monaca Monreale DOC is a complex and powerful red wine that is able to convey the typical aromas of Syrah grapes to perfection.
In the glass, the La Monaca Monreale DOC shows itself in a strong ruby red. On the nose it reveals the typical aromas of the Syrah grape with penetrating spicy and aromatic herbal notes. Deep notes of dark berries, plum compote and cedar reach the nose. These flavours can also be tasted on the palate. Here the balsamic texture of this pure Syrah unfolds. The intense fruit is balanced by a juicy acidity. Fine tannins flatter the tongue and the finish is long and lasting.
Vinification of La Monaca Monreale DOC by Sallier de la Tour
Standing in a trellis and growing on clay soil, the Syrah develops on the south-west facing vineyards 350 metres above sea level in the DOC Monreale, especially in the Jato valley, where the Syrah vines are almost ideally located. The yield is low, the quality and concentration of the grapes is high.
The Syrah grapes are selectively harvested by hand and fermented at 25-30°C in the steel tank in contact with the skins. Malolactic fermentation is complete. The wine then matures for 14 months in French oak from Alliers and Troncais and then remains in the bottle for another 6 months.
This wine is made 100% from Syrah grapes, a grape variety whose exact origins are unknown to this day, spread all over the world, which has developed into a real terroir wine in Sicily. It is of great interest to the winery as it has developed a considerable potential in Sicily and has thus become the expression of a Sicilian terroir variety.
