Passion for wine
The history of La Rioja Alta begins on 10 July 1809, the day on which five Riojans and Basque families became the Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta. The vision was not only to share the passion for wine, but also to vinify high quality Rioja wines.
Continuous development
The columns on which La Rioja Alta stands are: Quality, elegance, innovation, evolution. This includes a constant striving for excellence - in the vineyard as well as in the wine cellar. State-of-the-art wine-growing technologies are combined with wine-growing tradition, wisdom, our own cooperage, manual bottling and long ripening times.
High-quality wines are produced in the vineyard
The vines stand on 400 hectares of vineyards in the best locations of Rioja. Tempranillo occupies the highest share. Other local grape varieties are:
- Graciano
- granacha
- Mazuelo
These grape varieties are essential for the distinctive personality of La Rioja Alta.
Own barrels in the wine cellar
Oak is essential for the maturing process. This is why La Rioja Alta produces its own barrels with its own cooperage. The wine cellar contains about 30,000 barrels. These are still made according to traditional craftsmanship.
