Love was the beginning
Edouard Langlois was born in 1873 in the Saumur region. A winemaker and cellar master in St-Hilaire-St-Florent married 19-year-old Jeanne Chateau from Vendée at the age of 23. With the help of Baron de Bodman (owner of the Château de St-Florent), they founded the family business Maison Langlois-Chateau in St-Hilaire-St-Floren.
First there was the sparkling wine
Langlois-Chateau specialized from the beginning in the production of sparkling wine. The business got off to a quick start and began to show signs of success. The First World War interrupted the flourishing business - Edouard Langlois also died in this war at the age of 42.
High up with Maison Bollinger
In 1973 the Maison Bollinger recognised the excellent quality of the sparkling wines and acquired the majority of the shares in Langlois-Chateau. With Maison Bollinger came not only the financial resources. Thanks to his negotiating skills, Langlois-Chateau experienced rapid growth, which led to the expansion of the wineries, creating new vineyards in the area:
- Saumur
- Saumur-Champigny and
- Sancerre
And then there were the still wines, too
In addition to producing fine sparkling wines, the Langlois-Chateau also produces still wines from its own vineyards in the Val de Loire. Look forward to pure white wines from Chenin Blanc or Sauvignon Blanc and also a red wine vinified exclusively from Cabernet Franc.
