With the M. Chapoutier Les Arènes Cornas comes a first-class red wine in the wine glass. In this it presents a wonderfully dense, crimson color. When swirling the wine glass, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which shows in church windows at the edge of the glass. To the nose, this M. Chapoutier red wine shows all sorts of plums, black cherries, morello cherries, blueberries and blackberries. As if that wasn't already impressive, the aging in small wooden barrels adds other aromas such as sun-warmed rock, cocoa bean and oriental spices.
On the palate, M. Chapoutier's Les Arènes Cornas opens pleasantly dry, grippy and aromatic. There is dry and really dry. This red wine belongs to the latter group, as it was vinified with only 0.7 grams of residual sugar. Due to its balanced fruit acidity, Les Arènes Cornas flatters the palate with a velvety feel, without lacking juicy liveliness at the same time. The finish of this youthful red wine from the wine-growing region of the Northern Rhône Valley, more precisely from Cornas, finally impresses with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes of the soils dominated by clay and granite.
Vinification of the M. Chapoutier Les Arènes Cornas
This wine clearly focuses on one grape variety, and that is Syrah. Only the best grapes were harvested for this wonderfully powerful single varietal wine from M. Chapoutier. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in the Northern Rhône Valley. The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of clay, limestone and granite. Clearly, Les Arènes Cornas is also defined by more than just the Cornas soil. This Frenchman can be described as an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, and it is extraordinarily impressive. The fact that the Syrah grapes thrive under the influence of a warm climate also has an influence on the ripeness of the grapes that cannot be dismissed. This manifests itself, among other things, in particularly well ripened grapes and rather high alcohol content in the wine. The grapes for this red wine from France are harvested exclusively by hand at the time of optimal ripeness. After harvesting, the grapes are immediately taken to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation follows in concrete and small wood at controlled temperatures. After the completion of fermentation, Les Arènes Cornas is aged for another 16 months in French oak barriques.
Food recommendation for the Les Arènes Cornas by M. Chapoutier
