The principle of Lionel Osmin & Cie
The dynamic Lionel Os min combines tradition with innovation and has made it his business to advise small family wineries, to combine individual wines into lines and to store and distribute them centrally. Thus, old and almost forgotten regions, grape varieties and wineries have a new chance to remain in the trade.
The terroir of Lionel Osmin
To the south, the Sud-Ouest region is bordered by the Pyrenees, the natural border with Spain, and to the east by the Garonne. To the north is the mild and windy Massif Central, and to the west the Atlantic Ocean.
The wines of Lionel Osmin & Cie come from the appellations Bergerac, Cahors, Buzet, Fronton, Gaillac, Jurançon,Marcillac, Madiran and Armagnac and are mostly fresh and Atlantic-cool.
Sustainability at Lionel Osmin & Cie
Through agricultural and agronomic training, Lionel Osmin has always wanted to produce the healthiest wines and limit its impact on the environment. In the Atlantic vineyards, which are exposed to heavier rainfall than other French or foreign soils, Lionel Os min therefore considers organic farming to be only half the solution, as the number of copper treatments has greatly increased compared to the justified control practiced. The aim is therefore to reduce the use of pesticides without the increase in tractor use and the leaching of Bordeaux mixture into the soil have too great an impact. An R&D position was therefore created in 2018 with the aim of producing "zero residues" in both wines and soils. The project consists of studying and developing tools to support winemaker partners in the transition phase. An ambitious project implemented with agronomic realism and the pursuit of efficiency, while avoiding simplistic ideologies, opportunistic shortcuts and commercial dogma. The health of the vineyards, the soils, the consumers and the producer-partners, as well as future generations, are at the heart of this concern.
The values of Lionel Osmin
The original approach of the House of Lionel Osmin was to promote the grape varieties and terroirs of the Southwest. So what could be more natural than to improve the enhancement of the grapes in order to offer the best blends. But also so that the associated winemakers benefit from the work, giving them the means to work and invest better to prepare for the future. According to this logic, since 2010 we choose the different suppliers to the heart of our territory. In order to preserve local jobs, they reduce the carbon footprint of purchases and travel: Graphic designers, printers, consultants, service providers, pottery makers, weavers or even truffles, most live and work here.
