Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel 2017 - Ravenswood
The Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel from Ravenswood is a wonderful American red wine cuvée made from the grape varieties Zinfandel (77%) and Petite Sirah (23%).
In the glass this wine shimmers in a deep cherry red with purple reflections. Ripe plums and fresh wild strawberries dominate the bouquet. This is accompanied by aromas of dried currants and vanilla notes. On the palate this American red wine is very juicy with a full-bodied and intense body. The intense fruity fullness is full to bursting with sweet ripe berries and warm spice. The tannin is powerful, well structured and harmonizes perfectly with the fine acidity. The finish has a pleasant length.
Vinification of Ravenswood Zinfandel Lodi
The grapes for this Zinfandel from Ravenswood come exclusively from the Lodi region in the northern tip of the San Joaquin Valley. Over the years, Ravenswood's old Zinfandel vines in Lodi have been able to anchor their roots deep in the vineyard. The climate there is as unique as it is favourable and the vines are very old. All this leads to the characteristic soft wines, full of warmth and velvety fullness.
All grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with their natural yeasts from the vineyard in stainless steel tanks for 7 to 9 days at controlled temperature. This wine is then pressed and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (30% new wood). The Lodi Zinfandel completely undergoes biological acid degradation.
Food recommendation for the Zinfandel Lodi Ravenswood
