More information
The barrel-aged Macán Rioja from the wine-growing region of La Rioja offers a dense ruby red in the glass. With a little lateral position, the wine glass reveals a charming garnet red tone at the edges. Swiveling the glass, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, which is evident in church windows at the rim of the glass. To the nose, this Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia red wine shows all sorts of blueberries, black currants, blackberries, black cherries and morello cherries. As if that wasn't already impressive, the aging in large wooden barrels adds other flavors such as dark chocolate, oriental spices and black tea.
The Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia Macán Rioja presents itself to the wine enthusiast wonderfully dry. This red wine never shows itself coarse or meager, but round and smooth. The final of this mature red wine from the wine-growing region of La Rioja finally convinces with a beautiful reverberation.
Vinification of the Macán Rioja by Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia
The basis for the powerful Macán Rioja from La Rioja are grapes from the grape variety Tempranillo. Macán Rioja is an Old World wine through and through, as this Spaniard exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. The fact that the Tempranillo grapes thrive under the influence of a warm climate also has a considerable influence on the maturity of the vintage. This manifests itself, among other things, in particularly well ripened grapes and rather high alcohol content in the wine. After harvesting, the grapes reach the winery by the fastest route. Here they are sorted and carefully crushed. This is followed by fermentation in large wood at controlled temperatures. After its end, the Macán Rioja is aged for another 16 months in French oak barrels.
